Swim Lessons!

Hayden had kind of a scary incident at daycare where he fell in the pool and sunk to the bottom.  My friend Becky, who watches them, dove right in and pulled him out -so it wasn't a dangerous situation, just scary because he didn't even try to swim or splash or anything. Just sunk like a rock.
Since Becky has a pool and practically everyone else here in the valley, I decided to enroll them in ISR -which teaches kids how to react should they find themselves in water unexpectedly.  They learn to open their eyes under water so they can see where they are going, and how to float on their back to rest and breath, and how to alternate floating and swimming till they can reach the side of the pool and pull themselves out. The program teaches infants as young as 6 months old (although we decided to wait till next year to enroll Grayce -mainly due to cost -it's super expensive, but I feel money well spent). It's pretty amazing and their instructor Colleen is awesome!
 Graduation trophies!

The last day they wear jeans, socks, shoes, a sweater, etc. so they can practice reacting with the extra weight of wet clothing should they unexpectedly fall in. And their instructor would flip them so they could practice reacting if they fell in head first, face first. backwards, etc.
It sure has made pool time more enjoyable for me as I'm not stressing out every two seconds when we go anymore.  Isn't Grayce an adorable little swim buddy?
And we've been spending so much time poolside, that my boys are darker than my Navajo friend Jennifer Tsinnie's daughter. I just think it's funny. With how pale I am and dark she is -it's something we would've bet a million bucks when we were growing up would never happen  lol!
