Hayden's 5th Birthday!

Hayden's favorite thing lately whenever we come home, is to change into his pajamas and put his roller-skates on. He is getting really good at wheeling around on the tile. He requested a Roller Skating party for his Birthday (he also requested a Batman and a Pokemon-Go party, frequently changing his mind, but we went with the skate idea).
Uncle Buzzy & Grandma were able to be here for the party.
I love when Hayden says "wittlebidit"  I wiw hab a wittlebitid of syrup on my pancakes.

Hayden is such a sweet boy.  He always opens my car door for me before going back around to the side his booster seat is on and climbing in. He always picks me flowers and tells me I look "so bootiful".  He is so sweet and protective over his little sister.  He is very quick witted.  He'll look at something I've made for dinner and tell me he doesn't like it.  I'll tell him he doesn't know if he likes it, he's never had it before, and he'll respond, "How do you know I neber had it afore?"  I'll respond, "Because this is the first time in your life that I've ever made it." So he'll quip back, "I tried it when I was up in Heaven, and I hated it, so Jesus just gabe me Pizza." He is very observing and is very analytical with the way he views things. He's my child that will say things like, "That lady's reawy old Mom -she hab a lot of wrinkles." We're working on recognizing observations that might hurt someones feelings. He LOVES church.  If we ever skip out of 3rd hour he will start crying because he hates to miss primary.

Hayden's prayers are sometimes interesting.  He often prays "help Reese and me not fight, and help Mom and Dad not fight" which is sweet except when it's a public prayer like in primary -then it's a tad embarrassing.  I never know what to expect when he prays.  One time in the midst of his usual lines he threw in, "and help us kill all de zombies afore dey kill us".  When he was done I asked, "What was that part about killing zombies?"  He goes, "Oh sorry Mom, I not kill dem" (he knows I don't like killing games), "I just make them go night-night....FOREVER!" and he threw his head back and laughed a maniacal laugh.  The other night he ended his prayer with, "and help Iron man and Superman to unite and sabe de world."

One night the kids were all asleep (or so I thought) so I went downstairs to run on the treadmill.  Hayden came in and said he wasn't tired.  I told him he could stay with me till I was done running. He started flipping through some old photos that were laying in the corner.  He kept asking, "Is dis baby me Mom?"  Unfortunately they all happened to be photos of Reese, so I would tell him, "No, that's Reese when he was a baby." Frustrated he asked, "Where am I in these pictures Mom?" So I told him, "You were in my tummy in that picture." Hayden started just bawling and said, "I wanted to be born first Mom.  I wanted it so bad. I was waiting up in Heaven the whole time!" At that point I pulled the rip cord on the treadmill, hopped off and just cradled him.  With lots of kisses I told him how much I love him.  It has got to be hard being the middle child.  I hope I can help him realize how grateful I am that he came in the middle, he's the perfect balance to our family.  I love him so very much!!! He is my sweet energetic little apostle kid.  (Edward nicknamed Hayden "apostle kid" because of his love for church, and he says the lengthiest prayers of anyone in the family :)

Library fun

It's been some time since we've been to the library for story-time, but I got an e-mail for this fun parachute activity that happened to be on a Thurs I was off. The kids loved it!
The kids favorite part of every library activity is always the bubbles at the end :)

My sweet cousin Kaelyn was called to serve in the Manchester England mission.
She will be an awesome missionary!
It was fun spending the weekend before she left with extended family.
My sweet Grandpa who is 88yrs old flew in for her farewell.

Tooth Fairy!

Reese lost baby tooth "E" and the tooth-fairy made her first visit to our house!
Reese got $4 from the tooth-fairy.
The other day the neighbor kids hopped the fence and they were all playing in the backyard.  Reese came running in looking for his money.  I asked him what he needed it for.  He said he wanted $2 to give to the neighbor kids because they had swept all the leaves off the trampoline.  Reese said, "Dey did a good job Mom.  And when you do a reawy good job, den you should earn some money."  I thought it was sweet, and told him it was his money and he could do whatever he wanted with it.  He was super happy after he gave each kid a dollar.

Reese kept checking the mirror to see if his new big tooth was popping through yet.
He asked me, "Mom, do I need water my new toof to make it grow?"
I laughed and said no.  After a thoughtful pause he asked, "What about sunshine?"
I had to explain that teeth are not like flowers.  They just take time to grow so to be patient. ;)

Spook Hill

My kids love for hiking stems from all our visits to Page (it also runs in their Washburn DNA I'm sure).  Now that they are getting older, I'm getting braver about exploring trails here in the valley.  Hayden equivocates hiking with climbing a mountain, and will school me, "dat not a real hike Mom, we not get to de top of de mountain, so dat not a real hike."  I was happy when I heard about "Spook Hill".  It's the perfect sized "mountain" for little hikers, and when we got to the top we could even see the skyscrapers downtown.  Reese, who is normally my lazy bones, surprised me when we got to the top.  He was running around and came up to me and said, "I feel SO happy Mom! Why dis place make me so happy?" I was able to hold his sweet smiling face in my hands and help him recognize that exercise makes you feel good!
